Improving and expanding parks and recreation opportunities in the Towns of Madison and Mayodan for residents and visitors.

WE NEED YOUR HELP...

...to create a community-led vision for Madison-Mayodan Recreation.

PLAN PURPOSE

Moving Together Madison-Mayodan will serve as a guide for improving and expanding parks and recreation opportunities in the Towns of Madison and Mayodan for residents and visitors. The plan will also be critical to ensure grant competitiveness with potential funders.

PLAN GOALS

QUALITY OF LIFE

Enhance the quality of life for current and future Madison and Mayodan citizens by providing quality recreation services and programs and an interconnected network of public green space.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Create sustainable recreational infrastructure that provides opportunities for all ages and abilities and enhances community wellness through the improvement of physical, mental, and social health.

ACCESS AND CONNECTIVITY

Enhance access to the Mayo and Dan Rivers and connect parks, open space, and other significant community assets through a network of multi-use greenways and trails.

UNITY

Identify projects that also help achieve broader community goals, such as collaboration between the towns and link the past with present and future.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Spur economic growth by creating recreational opportunities and community assets that attract visitors to the Towns of Madison and Mayodan.

GRANT FUNDING

Ensure grant competitiveness by adhering to any relevant grant funding guidelines.

PLAN PROCESS

01

RESEARCH AND PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS

Complete a kick-off meeting with the project committee to discuss key opportunities and constraints, review detailed demographic and economic data, research past planning efforts, develop a database of existing parks and recreation assets, and assess existing resources and assets.

02

STAKEHOLDER AND PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT

Conduct a series of interviews and focus groups with government and community leaders to understand the desires and interests of the community. Disseminate an online community survey to capture input from citizens. Produce a project website that serves as a portal for sharing information throughout the planning process.

03

PLAN DEVELOPMENT

Develop a plan framework that features preliminary recommendations for improving and expanding recreational opportunities and assets with guidance from the project committee, stakeholders, and the public. Conduct a public forum to gather feedback on plan recommendations.

04

FINAL PLAN DEVELOPMENT

Create a comprehensive parks and recreation master plan document that features visual elements for plan recommendations, implementation phasing schedule with estimate of probable cost, and outline of key grant funding sources. The plan will be available to the public on the project website.
